About Go Fish

The first card game most people learn. Ask the other players for a number you hold; if they have any, they hand them over. If not, go fish from the pond. Collect all four of a number to make a book, and the most books wins. Big cards, plain words, and computer friends who take their time, or two players sharing one device with the cards hidden between turns.

Go Fish is the first card game many children learn. Ask another player for a number you already hold; if they have any, they hand them all over and you go again. If not, you go fish from the pond. Four of a number make a book, and whoever has the most books at the end wins. On twzl it is played against one or two computer friends with big cards, plain words and a pause after every turn.

Tips

  • Listen to what the others ask for. If Robin asks for sevens, Robin is holding a seven, so when you draw one, ask Robin.
  • Ask for the number you hold the most of. With three already in your hand, one more makes a book.
  • Keep asking while it works. Every catch, and every lucky fish that brings the card you asked for, gives you another turn.
  • Your hand is grouped by number, so you can see at a glance which sets are nearly complete.
  • For parents: the game reads out what happened after every question, and the computer players for younger children forget more often, so a careful child can win.

Questions

What age is it for?
It is listed for children from about seven to thirteen, and younger children can play it with a grown-up beside them.
What does it teach?
Matching, remembering what other players have asked for, taking turns, and a little counting as books build up.
How do I ask a player?
Tap a card to ask for that number. With two opponents, then tap the player you want to ask, or drag the card onto them.
What happens if I run out of cards?
You take a card from the pond and carry on, as long as there are cards left in it.
Can I play against more than one?
Yes. Choose to play Robin alone or Robin and Sam together. The change starts with the next game.
Is it free?
Yes. Go Fish is free in your browser, with no download and no account needed.
