About

A full-size daily crossword in the classic newspaper style. Seventy-odd clues, fair and friendly, a fresh grid every morning.

Practices: Vocabulary, General knowledge, Wordplay

A full fifteen by fifteen crossword in the classic newspaper style, with around seventy clues. The clues aim to be fair rather than obscure, so a steady solver can finish it over a coffee. A new grid arrives every morning, the same for everyone.

Tips

  • Go through the short answers first. Three and four letter words give you crossing letters that open up the long ones.
  • Fill-in-the-blank clues are usually the easiest in the grid, so look for them early.
  • A question mark at the end of a clue means wordplay: the answer is a pun or a stretch of meaning, not a plain definition.
  • Match the form of the clue. A plural clue wants a plural answer, and a clue in the past tense wants one too.
  • Tap a square again to switch between across and down, and use the tab key to jump to the next clue.
  • If a corner will not give, use Check to mark wrong letters before you reach for Reveal.

Questions

Is the crossword free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no download, no subscription and no account needed.
When does the new crossword come out?
A fresh grid appears every day at midnight, and everyone solves the same one.
Can I play past crosswords?
Yes. Every earlier daily grid is in the archive, one tap from the game.
What do Check and Reveal do?
Check marks the letters that are wrong. Reveal fills in a square, a word or the whole grid, but a revealed solve does not go on the leaderboard.
Can I finish it later?
Yes. Your letters are saved as you type, so you can close the page and come back. Add an email to your account and it follows you to another device.
