About Crazy Eights

The family card game. Match the top card of the pile by suit or by number; an eight goes on anything and lets you name the next suit. First to empty their hand wins. Play one to three computer players, relaxed or sharp, or open a room and play a friend.

Crazy Eights is the family card game where you match the top card of the pile by suit or by number. Eights are wild: one goes on anything, and you name the suit that follows. First to empty their hand wins. Play against one, two or three computer players at a relaxed or sharp level, or open a room and play a friend.

Tips

  • Save your eights. They are the only cards that always fit, so they are worth most when you are stuck or someone else is down to their last card or two.
  • When you play an eight, name the suit you hold most of. That gives you the best chance of playing again on your next turn.
  • Notice which suits the others draw on. A player who had to draw when hearts were called probably has no hearts, so calling hearts again can hold them up.
  • Shed picture cards and eights before the round ends if you can. If someone goes out while you are still holding them, they are worth 10 and 50 points to the winner.
  • Switching suit with a matching number is a quiet way to move play onto a suit that suits you, without spending an eight.
  • Your hand is sorted by suit, with the eights kept together at the end, and cards that fit the pile rise slightly so you can see your options at a glance.

Questions

How many cards does each player get?
Seven each with two players, and five each with three or four.
What happens when I draw?
You draw one card. If it fits the pile you may play it at once or keep it; if it does not fit, your turn ends.
Can I draw even if I could play?
Yes. You may draw instead of playing, which can be useful when you would rather hold on to a card.
How does scoring work?
The winner scores the cards left in everyone else's hands: 50 for an eight, 10 for a picture card, 1 for an ace, and face value for the rest.
What if the deck runs out?
The pile is shuffled to make a new deck, keeping its top card. If nobody can play and there is nothing left to draw, the lightest hand wins.
Can I play a friend?
Yes. Open a room and share its code to play a friend online. Against the computer you can choose one to three opponents and how sharp they play.
