Target
About Target
Combine the six numbers with + − × ÷ to hit the target exactly. Every number can be used once. There is always a way.
Target gives you six numbers and a target, and asks you to reach the target exactly using plus, minus, times and divide. Every result becomes a new number you can use again, and each number can be used only once. The target is built from the numbers themselves, so there is always a way.
Tips
- Start from the target, not the numbers. Look for a multiple of the large number that lands near it, then work out how far off you are.
- Make the gap small and close it last. If the target is 347 and you can make 350, you only need a 3 from what is left.
- Multiplying two small numbers is often the way to make a useful middle number, such as 7 times 8 for 56.
- You do not have to use every number. Leave the spare ones alone once you have what you need.
- Keep an eye on the Closest figure. It shows how near your best number so far is to the target.
- Undo takes back one step at a time, so try a line freely and step back if it leads nowhere.
Questions
- Is it free?
- Yes. Target plays in your browser with no download and no account needed.
- How do I play?
- Tap a number, then an operation, then a second number. The answer appears as a new tile and the two you used are spent.
- Are fractions or negative numbers allowed?
- No. Every step has to give a whole number above zero, so a division must come out exactly.
- Is there a new puzzle every day?
- Yes. New numbers and a new target appear at midnight, and earlier days are in the archive.
- How is it scored?
- By time. The leaderboard ranks the fastest exact answer for the day.
- Is it easier for younger players?
- Yes. Tweens get a smaller large number and a target between 20 and 200. Teens and adults get one of 25, 50, 75 or 100 and a target between 100 and 999.
