Chomp
EveryoneAbout Chomp
A maze chase through five places, eight mazes in each: a hedge garden, an old library of locked doors, an ice cave of slides, a neon city of portals and a sunken temple lit only around you. Lead a lost little one home, race a rival chomper for the pips, watch a maze grow new paths when you eat a star, find your way with a lantern, and face a big crowned boss at the end of every place. Four hunters, each with its own idea of how to catch you: Rusk chases, Fen cuts you off, Mote closes the pincer, Drowse keeps its distance. Eat a power star and for a few seconds they are the ones running. The Helper slows the hunters and warns you when one is near.
Chomp is a maze chase. Eat every pip in the maze while four hunters close in, each with its own way of catching you, and eat a power star to turn them blue and chase them back. There are forty hand-drawn mazes in five places, eight in each with a boss at the end: a hedge garden, an old library of locked doors, an ice cave of slides, a neon city of portals and a sunken temple lit only around you.
Tips
- Learn the four hunters. Rusk heads straight for you, Fen aims a few steps ahead of where you are going, Mote works with Rusk to come at you from the other side, and Drowse chases until it gets close, then backs off.
- Watch the Hunters readout. While it says Scattered they drift off to their corners, which is the time to clear the far side of the maze; when it says Hunting, keep your escape routes open.
- Save the power stars. Eat one when two or three hunters are close, not when they are far away, and the chain of 200, 400 and 800 points is there to take.
- Power stars last a little less on every maze, so in the later places go for the nearest blue hunter and do not wander off after one at the other end of the board.
- Each maze sends out a piece of fruit twice, once about a third of the way through and again with about a third of the pips left, and it stays for around nine seconds. It is worth more in each new place.
- Use the twist. In the library, hunters cannot pass a locked door either, so an open door is a route for them too; on the ice you cannot turn until a slide lets you go, so look before you step on.
Questions
- Is it free?
- Yes. Chomp plays in your browser with no download and no account needed.
- How do I play on a phone?
- Put your thumb anywhere on the maze and push the way you want to go, like a joystick. You can change direction without lifting. There are arrow buttons under the maze as well.
- How do I play on a computer?
- Use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D. Press a direction before you reach a corner and you turn the moment the way is open.
- How are the stars decided?
- Clear the maze without being caught for three stars, get caught once for two, and any clear earns one.
- How do the places open?
- The mazes in a place open one after another, and clearing all five opens the next place.
- Is there a leaderboard?
- Yes. Your best score on every maze is added up, and that total goes on the leaderboard.
