About 2048

Slide tiles together to make bigger numbers. Simple to learn, hard to put down, and quietly great doubling practice.

2048 is a sliding number puzzle on a four by four board. Every swipe moves all the tiles one way, and two tiles with the same number merge into their sum. Reach 2048, then keep going if you like. It is simple to learn and quietly good doubling practice.

Tips

  • Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there. Most good games are built around one corner.
  • Use mostly two directions, such as down and left, and a third only when you have to. Avoid the fourth.
  • Keep the row along your corner full, so a stray swipe cannot pull the big tile out.
  • Build a chain of falling values along the edge: 512, 256, 128, and so on, so merges cascade into the corner.
  • Think a move ahead before you swipe. The one-step undo is there for mistakes, not as a plan.
