Word Builder
KidsAbout Word Builder
See the picture, hear the hint, tap the letters into place. Three-letter words for beginners, longer as they grow.
Word Builder shows a picture, reads a hint aloud, and gives your child the letters of the word in a muddle. They tap the letters into the right order to spell it. When the word is right, the voice reads it back one letter at a time as each letter lights up, then says the whole word.
Tips
- Say the picture's name slowly and listen for each sound before tapping. The first sound tells you the first letter.
- Tap the speaker to hear the hint again. Hints are short and simple, such as "a pet that barks".
- Tap a letter in the word to send it back if it is in the wrong place. Nothing is lost by fixing a guess.
- After a wrong try, the letters in the right place stay put and the others go back, so your child can see how close they were.
- Say the letters along with the voice when the word is read back. Hearing and saying the spelling together helps it stick.
- Words that took more than one try come back more often in later rounds, so the tricky ones get extra practice.

- Little Learners, about four to six, get three and four letter words like cat and fish. Kids, about seven to ten, get words of four to six letters like apple and rocket.
