About Rupert's Pond Homes

Rupert's friends have wandered off. Take each one home: the fish and tadpoles to the pond, the snail and hedgehog to the meadow, the bat and the bees to the sky. Every friend is named aloud. Sorting and words for early learners.

Rupert's Pond Homes is a sorting game for young children. Rupert the frog's friends have wandered off, and each one needs taking home: the fish, tadpoles, ducklings and beaver to the pond, the snail, hedgehog, rabbit, mouse, beetle and grasshopper to the meadow, and the bat, bees, birds and flies to the sky. The child drags each friend to its home. Every friend is named aloud when it is picked up, and the voice says where it lives when it arrives, so it builds words as well as sorting.

Tips

  • Sit with your child for the first round and look at the three homes together: water, grass and open sky. After that, the pictures carry the game.
  • Ask how they know. A bat has wings so it flies, a fish has fins so it swims. Talking it through is half the learning.
  • A friend dropped in the wrong home simply goes back to the log, and the voice says to try another home. There is no penalty beyond fewer stars.
  • Friends a child found tricky come back more often in later rounds, so a few rounds a day helps.
  • Dragging is good practice for small hands. If it is hard at first, guide the finger once and let them try again.

Questions

What age is it for?
It is made for ages four to ten. The youngest get two homes with three friends each; older children get all three homes with four each.

What do the stars mean?
Three stars for every friend in the right home first time, fewer when some tried the wrong home first.
What does it teach?
Grouping animals by where they live, naming them, and the fine motor control to drag a picture to a target.
Are there ads?
No. The areas for children show no ads.
Is it free?
Yes. Rupert's Pond Homes is free in your browser, with no download and no account needed.
