Rupert's Bubbles
KidsAbout Rupert's Bubbles
Rupert blows bubbles over his pond, each with a number in it. A voice asks for one: pop it before it drifts away. Number recognition and quick counting for the youngest players.
Rupert's Bubbles is a number game for young children. Rupert the frog sits on his lily pad and blows bubbles over the pond, each with a number in it. A voice says a number, such as "Pop the 7". Your child taps the one that matches, and ten pops finish the round. It practises recognising written numbers, from 1 to 10 for Little Learners and up to 20 for Kids.
Tips
- Tap the speaker button to hear the number again. Listening twice is fine, and it helps a child hold the number in mind while they look.
- Say the number together before looking for it, then trace its shape in the air. Matching a spoken number to a written one is the whole skill here.
- A wrong tap is gentle: the voice says which number that was and asks again, so the child hears both numbers side by side.
- If the right bubble drifts away, a fresh set comes up with the same number. There is no penalty, so let your child take their time.
- Numbers your child mixes up come round more often, so tricky pairs like 12 and 21 get extra practice without you having to plan it.
- Away from the screen, point out numbers on doors, buses and clocks and ask your child to read them. It is the same skill in the real world.
Questions
- What age is it for?
- Little Learners, about four to six, who see the numbers 1 to 10 on slower bubbles, and Kids up to about ten, who see numbers up to 20.
- Does my child need to read?
- No. The number is spoken aloud, and the bubbles show digits, not words.
- What does it teach?
- Recognising written numbers and linking each one to its spoken name, which is the groundwork for counting and adding.
- Can my child lose?
- No. Every round ends with all ten bubbles popped. Wrong taps only change the stars at the end, and the card says how many there were.
- Are there ads?
- No. The areas for children show no ads.
- Is it free?
- Yes. It is free in your browser, with no download and no account needed.
