About Times Tables

Pick a table and answer all twelve facts in a shuffled lap. Get every one right and the table is marked clean, so it is obvious which tables are solid and which still need a run. Separate from Math Blitz on purpose: this is practice, not a race.

Times Tables is calm multiplication practice for children. Pick a table, answer all twelve facts in a shuffled order, and a lap with no mistakes marks that table clean. At a glance, you can see which tables are solid and which need another go. It is practice, not a race.

Tips

  • Start with the 2, 5 and 10 tables. They follow easy patterns and build confidence.
  • Stay on one table until it is marked clean before moving on.
  • Tables are shuffled on purpose, so children learn each fact rather than chanting the sequence.
  • Point out the facts they already know from other tables: 3 times 7 is the same as 7 times 3.
  • A lap takes a couple of minutes. A few laps a day do more than one long session a week.
