Rupert's Frog Choir
TweensAbout Rupert's Frog Choir
Four frogs sit on lily pads, each with a note of its own, and Rupert conducts. Listen to them sing a tune, then tap the frogs in the same order. Every round the tune grows by one note. Sound and colour together train working memory.
Rupert's Frog Choir is a memory game on Rupert the frog's pond. Four frogs sit on lily pads, red, yellow, blue and purple, each with a note of its own, and Rupert conducts from his log. He points at the singers one after another; then you tap the frogs in the same order. Every round the tune is the one before with one more note on the end. It trains working memory with sound and colour together, for children from three to twelve.
Tips
- Say the colours under your breath as the frogs sing. Words hold longer than pictures, and red, red, blue, purple is easier to keep than the sight alone.
- The sequence never changes, it only grows. Each round is the one before with one new step at the end, so you only have to learn one new thing each time.
- Listen as well as watch. Each frog has its own note, rising from red to yellow to blue to purple, and the tune is often easier to remember than the colours.
- Break long sequences into groups of three or four, the way people remember phone numbers.
- Take your time on your turn. There is no clock while you tap, so a short pause to remember the next step costs nothing.
Questions
- Is it free?
- Yes. Echo plays in your browser with no download and no account needed.
- What age is it for?
- Children from three to twelve. The sequence is shown slowly for the youngest and gets quicker for older children.
- How is it scored?
- Your score is the length of the longest tune you sang back in full. The end card shows which note went wrong and which frog should have sung it.
- Can it be played without sound?
- Yes. With the sound off the frogs still light up and puff out their throats, though the notes are a real help with longer tunes.
- Is there a high score?
- Yes. Your best run is shown beside the board, and every game goes on the leaderboard.
- Does it work with a mouse or keyboard?
- Yes. Click the frogs, or press 1 to 4 for the frogs from left to right.
