What Comes Next
TweensAbout What Comes Next
Shapes that repeat for the youngest, number sequences for kids, doubling and square numbers for tweens. Pick what comes next.
What Comes Next shows a row of shapes or numbers and asks for the next one. The youngest players see repeating shapes and hear the question spoken aloud, younger children count up and down in steps, and tweens meet doubling, square numbers and the Fibonacci sequence. The rule changes every question.
Tips
- Look at how each number changes from the one before it. Most rows go up or down by the same amount every time.
- If the gaps grow, try doubling, or check whether each number is the two before it added together.
- For shape rows, say them aloud: circle, square, circle, square. The repeat is easier to hear than to see.
- Check your answer against the whole row, not just the last two items, before you tap.
- For parents: a short round a day works well. Questions your child missed come back more often, and the end screen lists the ones worth another look.
Questions
- What age is it for?
- Children from about four to thirteen. What the questions ask for depends on the age band you choose.
- Does my child need to read?
- Not in the Little Learners band. The question is spoken and the answers are shapes.
- What happens after a wrong answer?
- Younger players are asked to try again until they find it. Older players see the right answer and move on to the next question.
- How long is a round?
- Six questions for the youngest players and ten for everyone else, with no timer.
- What does it teach?
- Spotting patterns, counting in steps, counting backwards, and for older children, doubling and square numbers.
- Is it free?
- Yes. It is free in your browser, with no download and no account needed.
